- Amazon, Naturgy, Sologas, Carburos Metálicos, Scale Gas, Toyota España, Urbaser, PreZero España, Waga Energy España, Nedgia, Knutsen, Península, Repsol, Scale Gas (subsidiary of Enagás), PRF and the H2PORTS Project have been awarded in the seven categories recognised by the sustainable transport congress.
- The awards, which were presented last night in Madrid, recognise innovative initiatives that promote the sustainability of all modes of transport.
- The awards were presented by representatives of the European Parliament, the Spanish government and the Community of Madrid.
Within the framework of the reference event on sustainable transport in the Iberian Peninsula, Green Gas Mobility Summit, which is being held until today in La Nave (Madrid), Gasnam-Neutral Transport has presented the 2nd edition of the ‘Neutral Transport Innovation Awards’. These awards, which are given together with the Neutral Transport Technology Platform, seek to recognise, support and give visibility to innovative projects with the greatest potential for growth in the value chain of renewable gases, from production and distribution to their use in different modes of transport.
The prize-winners in this 2nd edition were:
- Amazon, for its commitment to the decarbonisation of road freight transport. In line with its The Climate Pledge commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, the company is driving the decarbonisation of transportation by increasing fleet efficiency, expanding the use of low-carbon fuels and the use of low- and zero-emission vehicles. In addition, in October 2022, Amazon announced plans to invest more than €1 billion over the next five years to further decarbonise its transport network across Europe, drive innovation across the industry and encourage more public charging infrastructure. Christoph Steck, Amazon’s Director of Institutional Relations in Spain and Portugal, received the award from José María García, Deputy Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid.
- Naturgy and Sologas, for the pioneering bio-LNG project for use in transport developed in Spain. The multinational energy company will give a strong boost to the decarbonisation of the transport sector, by road and sea, by acquiring the bio-LNG production that will come from the future waste recovery plant of Sologas in As Somozas (A Coruña). Miguel Angel Biencinto (Renewable Gas Sales Manager of Naturgy) and Santiago Aguilar (founding partner of Sologas) received the award from the Deputy Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, José María Garcia.
- Carburos Metálicos, Scale Gas (a subsidiary of Enagás), Toyota España and Urbaser, for promoting the use of hydrogen to decarbonise transport with the development of the first hydrogen plant supplying 700 bar in Spain (Manoteras, Madrid). This is a pioneering initiative that favours the penetration of renewable energies in transport and contributes to achieving climate objectives. The President and CEO of Toyota España, Miguel Carsi; the Director of Hydrogen and Energy Transition of Carburos Metálicos, Héctor Carbonell; the Cofounder and Mobility Managing Director of Scale Gas, Miguel Ángel Castro; and the Director of Machinery of Urbaser, Rubén Torrado, received the award from the Deputy Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, José María García.
- PreZero España, Waga Energy España and Nedgia, for developing the largest biomethane injection project in the distribution network from waste from a controlled deposit in Can Mata (Els Hostalets de Pierola, Barcelona). This facility is the first in Spain capable of producing 70 GWh of biomethane per year from the recovery of solid waste, the equivalent of the energy consumption of 14,000 homes or the fuel for 200 buses. The Vice-Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, José María García, presented the award to Francisco Torres (Head of New Business Development at Nedgia), Pablo Caballero (Industrial Business Director at PreZero Spain) and Baptiste Usquin (CEO Waga Energy Spain).
- Knutsen, Peninsula, Repsol and Scale Gas, for the development of LNG and bioLNG bunkering infrastructures for the maritime sector. Scale Gas and Knutsen OAS Shipping presented the ‘Haugesund Knutsen’, the first LNG bunkering vessel built in Spain, while Scale Gas and Peninsula have built the LNG supply vessel ‘Levante LNG’, which will have Algeciras as its home port and will be operated commercially by Peninsula. For its part, Repsol has started up two LNG supply terminals for ships in the ports of Bilbao and Santander. The award was collected by Nacho de Miguel (head of LNG, Alternative Fuels and Sustainability at Peninsula), Álvaro Delicado (co-founder and manager of Scale Gas), Eugenia Bertrand (head of Green Gases and New Uses of LNG at Repsol) and Álvaro Agosti (general manager of Knutsen Spain), from the hands of the deputy director general of Safety, Pollution and Maritime Inspection of the Merchant Navy (MITMA), Ana Núñez.
- PRF, best SME of the year related to the value chain of renewable gases, for being a benchmark in innovation and internationalisation of solutions with compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, hydrogen and biomethane. The Deputy Director General for Innovation Coordination of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, Ignacio García Fenoll, presented the award to Bruno Faustino, Hydrogen Business Unit Manager of PRF.
- H2PORTS project, best innovation project in the value chain of renewable gases to increase and boost energy efficiency and decarbonisation of ports, and offer zero-emission port machinery alternatives. In this edition of the congress, Gasnam-Neutral Transport launched a call for innovation to give visibility to the most transformative and disruptive initiatives related to the value chain of new renewable and synthetic fuels. After a popular vote, the winner was the H2PORTS initiative, ‘Implementation Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Technologies in Ports’, funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and coordinated by the Valenciaport Foundation. Antonio Torregrosa, Director General of the Valenciaport Foundation, received the award from the Deputy Director General for Innovation Coordination of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, Ignacio García Fenoll.
